Everything on HeyPenny

What could I get?A few questions: tax back, welfare, grants.

Language

Revenue and Social Welfare forms are only in English or Irish.

A computer translates the other languages, so some words may be wrong. Money, dates and form names stay as they are.

Terms

Terms of use

Last updated 1 November 2026

These terms apply when you use heypenny.ie. heypenny.ie is a trading name of Kinch Press. In these terms, “we” means Kinch Press, a sole trader.

HeyPenny is a self-assessment tool. It works out figures from the answers you give, using the published rules. It isn't financial, tax or legal advice, and HeyPenny isn't a tax agent and doesn't act for you. You're responsible for checking your answers and for anything you file, claim or sign. Revenue, the Department of Social Protection, the HSE or your council decides your case.

What HeyPenny is, and isn't

HeyPenny works out Irish tax from the answers you give, using rules we check against Revenue and other official sources, and prepares schedules to help you file. It is not tax advice, and we are not a tax agent. We do not file anything with Revenue for you. You are responsible for your tax return, and for checking that your answers are complete and correct.

Revenue does not approve documents prepared by others. “Revenue-ready” means the schedule is laid out to match Revenue's forms, line by line.

If your affairs are complicated, or a lot of tax is at stake, have an accountant or tax adviser check your position.

For grants, HeyPenny checks whether you might qualify and fills in the official application form from your answers. It is a form-filling tool, not your agent. We don't apply for you or contact the council or SEAI for you, and it isn't legal advice. The council or SEAI decides your application and how much you get.

Your answers must be true

  • Give true and complete answers. HeyPenny doesn't check them against Revenue's or the Department's records. Giving false information to Revenue, the Department of Social Protection, a council or SEAI can be an offence. You're responsible for it, not HeyPenny.
  • A figure, a PDF or a pack is only as right as the answers behind it.
  • Don't use HeyPenny to make a return, claim or application you know is false or incomplete. If you do, you are responsible for what follows, such as tax, interest, penalties, surcharges, paying back a payment or grant, or a prosecution.
  • If you give us details about someone else, like a joint applicant, a child, a parent or someone you care for, you must have the right to give them. Tell them how we use them: our privacy notice says.

The calculators

The calculators are free. We work hard to keep them accurate and up to date, but they can only be as good as the answers given and the cases they cover. Each one says what it doesn't cover.

Buying a PDF or an application pack

  • A tax PDF costs €7, including any VAT.
  • A grant application pack is priced by the grant you could get, worked out from your answers: €19 for a grant of up to €5,000, €29 for a grant of up to €30,000, €49 for a grant of more than €30,000, including any VAT. A pack for a welfare grant is free, whatever its size, and is sent by email only. Your price is shown before you pay, and checking whether you qualify is always free.
  • You pay through Stripe. The PDF or pack is made from your answers when you pay, then emailed to you and available to download.
  • Before you pay, you tick a box to say: “My answers are true and complete, as far as I know. I understand HeyPenny is a self-assessment tool, not advice, and that I'm responsible for what I file, claim or send with this PDF.” (or “pack”). We keep when you ticked it, and the date of these terms, with your order. The email with your PDF or pack confirms it.
  • If a pack holds health or care details, like a disability or who gives care, you also tick a box to let us use them for your pack. We can't make that pack without them.
  • Because it is digital content delivered straight away, you agree when you buy that you lose the 14-day right to cancel once it is delivered. That doesn't affect the promise below.

Application packs

  • The pack is self-prepared: you check every page, sign it, and send it yourself. You are responsible for what you send, and for your answers being true and complete.
  • We never fill in declarations, consents, signatures, the dates you sign, or PPS numbers. The pack shows where each one goes. Anything that must be sworn, you swear in person.
  • A pack is not a promise of a grant. Grant schemes and forms change; each pack says which version of the form it uses.

If we get it wrong

If a PDF or pack is wrong because of an error in our calculation, our rules or how we filled in the form, tell us and we will correct it free of charge or refund you. If the law changes after you buy a PDF, but before the date your return is due, we will make a corrected PDF free of charge if you have an account. If a grant application is turned down for a reason that isn't our mistake, there is no refund.

When we find a mistake in one of our figures, we fix it within 2 working days. We email everyone whose PDF or pack used it, while we still hold their order, with a corrected one, free. Fixed mistakes are listed on our tax updates page.

Your records

An account is optional. If you have one, we keep the calculations, PDFs and documents you save until you delete them. You can download a year's records or delete your account at any time. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of records Revenue may ask for.

Our liability

We are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any PDF or pack is limited to the price you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

We are not responsible for losses caused by answers you gave that were untrue, incomplete or out of date, or by what you decide to file, claim, sign or send. Nor are we responsible for what Revenue, the Department, the HSE, a council or SEAI decides.

Using the site fairly

Don't misuse the site: no attempts to access other people's records, overload it, or copy it wholesale.

If these terms change

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. The terms you agreed to when you bought something stay the terms for that order.

Law

These terms are governed by Irish law, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of your local consumer law.
