How much is the Housing Adaptation Grant?

Up to €40,000. It pays all the cost for household incomes up to €37,500, then 85%, 75%, 50% and 30% as income rises to €75,000. Over that there's no grant. For a home under a year old, the most is half.

What can it pay for?

Changes that make a home work for someone with a disability. That can be a ramp, rails, an accessible shower or a downstairs toilet. It can also be a stairlift, a lift, a hoist, room for a wheelchair or an extension.

Does it pay the VAT?

No. It pays a share of the cost without VAT. Revenue may refund the VAT on some aids, like a stairlift or hoist.

Do I have to tell you about the disability?

No. Your doctor fills in that part of the form. We only ask what the council needs to work out the grant, and never your PPS number.
