Can I get the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant?

Common questions

How much is the grant?

Up to €50,000 to do up an empty property, or up to €70,000 if it's derelict (unsafe to live in). Converting a former shop or office into 2 homes adds up to €20,000, and 3 or more up to €40,000. On islands it's 20% more.

When is it paid?

After the works are finished, the council has seen the receipts and inspected the building. For a home to rent, the tenancy must be registered with the Residential Tenancies Board first.

Can I start the work before I'm approved?

No. Work done before the approval letter isn't covered. Once approved, you have 18 months to finish.
