Emergency tax on your payslip
High deductions because your employer has no payroll notification for you. Usually fixed in days, and refunded.
Emergency tax applies when your employer doesn't have a Revenue Payroll Notification for you. Usually that's because you haven't registered the job, or haven't given your PPS number. You pay income tax at 40% on most of your pay, with no credits, and USC at the higher rate.
Register the job in myAccount. Once Revenue sends the notification, the next payslip uses your real credits and pays back the extra tax through payroll.
