Tax credit
An amount taken straight off your income tax.
Credits reduce your income tax euro for euro. Everyone gets a personal credit (€2,000 for a single person in 2026), employees get the employee credit, and the self-employed the earned income credit. Others depend on your circumstances, such as rent, medical card or age.
Credits can't be refunded beyond the tax you owe, and USC and PRSI aren't reduced by them.
