Glossary · PAYE and payroll
Week 1 / Month 1 basis
A non-cumulative basis: each payslip is taxed on its own, with no catch-up.
On the week 1 or month 1 basis, you get one week's or month's share of your credits and band each payday. Unused amounts don't carry forward. Overpaid tax isn't refunded through payroll; you claim it back at the end of the year.
